PANIC YE NOT: A Survival Guide to the Middle Ages
Bibliophile price £3.00
Published price £7.99
Reach for the mead bowl as the creators of Hysterical Heritage bring you their latest guide to life in the murky past. Based on the Bayeux Tapestry, each double spread has an illustration reminiscent of those well-known medieval scenes, but somehow they seem to have been reinterpreted for our own times. Two knights gallop across the picture, lances at the ready, asking "OMG - did I leave the iron on?" A large ornate box arrives borne on the shoulders of four soldiers while the recipient welcomes it with "All hail ye, the Ocado delivery!" Six yeomen in a boat, or cog as they used to call them, are all paddling in different directions, with the caption, "Lost again! He always blames ye faulty Sat Nav". A chain-mailed soldier kneels to be knighted for "services in finding flour in ye shops for ye breadmaking during ye national lockdown". A knight on a red-coated horse with elaborately coiffed mane is wittily labelled "Ye middle age crisis?" while a gang of helmeted knights waving their spiked clubs are saying "'Tis thy birthday. Let's go clubbing!" More galloping knights and cheering footsoldiers race across the picture shouting "We advance to Canterbury!" "Ooh fabulous! There's a lovely garden centre just off the A28!" Women get an occasional look-in too, with the Queen de Prosecco being carried aloft on a litter. Great fun! 95pp, colour drawings.
