Roughly sketching the face, tusks and trunk and the ear shape depends on which elephant species you have chosen. Add the tail and toenails. Then start shading and adding scribbly lines to suggest skin texture. This texture is leathery and a close-up drawing shows us how to achieve this effect using multi-directional lines.
